To succeed in Internet Marketing  you need to stay ahead of the fast moving curve.

To be able to stay ahead of the curve you need to be focused on what the top 5% or even top 1% of Internet Marketers are doing.

These are the pace setters.

These are the people who go upstream to hatch their new ideas for the market and then let them float downstream into mainstream consciousness.

Once it hits mainstream consciousness the money has already been made by those in the top 5% (via their super affiliate and Joint Venture connections) and all remains for the rest are the crumbs the top 5% lets drop from their table.

That is the hard reality in today’s Internet Marketing space.

To succeed and succeed long term in this space you need to have your head screwed on right. You need to know exactly what you are doing, why you are doing it, with whom you are going to do it, the time frame for doing it and where you are heading with what you are doing (the end game).

Ultimately, our achievements and the speed of our achievements, will be determined by how we handle our decision making every day. It will be determined by what we decide to focus on, what we decide things mean to us (people, events, challenges, obstacles, opportunities etc that come our way) and our decisions made each day about what to do to create the results we desire.

What we do upstream will constantly determine the results that flow to us downstream.

THE 6 PILLARS OF EFFECTIVE MARKETING

What are the 6 pillars of effective marketing?

They are -

1. You need an effective marketing channel to locate and pull in your ideal clients so that you can open up an effective dialogue with them.

2. You need to devise some effective high reward/low risk “magnets” to persuade your target audience to take the actions you want them to (e.g. to opt in to your subscriber list) – e.g. a valuable report, audio or video

3. You need an effective Conversion Tool – to convert the merely curious visitor to a committed follower and buyer.

4. You need your front end/entry level Product. If this is not offered at time of first optin, you need a clear strategy of when it will be offered.

5. You need an upsell strategy so that when someone makes the decision to buy from you, you don’t miss your chance to sell more and maximize your profit. Remember the McDonald’s strategy “And do you want fries with that?” When a person is ready to buy, that is the best time ever to try them out on MORE. If your entry level product is $27.97, the upsell could be the same product bundled up with more value so that the ask price is $47.97. If you don’t constantly test the market you will regularly be leaving money on the table and never know it.

6. Finally, once you know you have happy customers who have purchased from you, apply the ascension model and keep moving them up to higher value, more premium type product to increase your gross revenues. Keep testing your list to differentiate between those who apply a strict budget to what they will buy, and those that will buy regardless of price if they want what you offer and trust the value and your guarantee.

That’s it.

These are the 6 essentials to creating a powerful marketing funnel.

7 Key Steps to building a successful Internet Marketing Business

You have probably heard it said – If you are not planning to succeed then you are planning to fail.

If you take the time to look for it, you will always discover that success is never random or accidental. It is always the result of following a clear plan and blueprint. Where do you get the plan or blueprint? From someone who has already achieved the sort of success you are aiming for.

Does that mean find a mentor? A coach? Yep, it does. Without question, unless you want to be on that slow boat to China for your whole business life.

My mentors taught me 7 key steps to create a successful business with a long term future -

1. Create a powerful vision for your business (your company) that clearly shows where you are going – the destination.  A vision that paints a picture of the preferred future state of your business. Next, make sure that this vision for your business aligns with your personal vision for your life. There must be a good match. That Vision must embrace things such as your Purpose, Your Mission Statement and your Values. It must be a vision that both excites you and scares you.

2. You then need to develop clear and precise business Strategies that align with your Vision. These Strategies are there to make sure you can realize your Vision. Further, you must generate Tactics that support the Strategies. These are your daily actions and behaviors to make sure you do implement the strategies. This is what will drive your revenues.

3. You need to develop clear modelling that will show how your business will produce revenue and what sort of revenues over set periods of time – eg. every 6 months, every year, every 3 years etc. There is no room for guessing, speculating and wishing. You need precise and reliable revenue modelling that is realistic and believable.

4. You need to establish the right sort of legal entities to be your Structure for your business to grow and prosper, taking advantage of legal means to reduce tax and grow your wealth over time. They must also deliver you with effective asset protection.

5. You must have an effective Marketing Strategy to promote your business to the right audiences selling your vision, your passion and your purpose.

6. You must have a dynamic Sales Strategy that is the product of your marketing efforts.

7. Finally, you must develop Leadership skills – both personal and to lead your Team. No one achieves a high level of business success without building a proficient team of the right people around them. You need leadership skills to lead and guide that team and keep your people infused with your business Vision.

MINDSET AND ACTION – THE KEY INGREDIENTS IN INTERNET MARKETING SUCCESS

I have written an e-book – Winning the Internet Game, the 10 Critical Steps to Gaining Better Results Online. I wrote this book because of the alarming stats that over 90% of people trying to be successful online are failing and failing dismally, and the other 5-10% are doing extremely well. My website is committed to helping change those stats. How? By distilling what the “Haves’” are doing that the “Have Nots” are not doing and trying to explain these success ingredients in easy to understand and implement ways.

When you take into account that the phenomenon of the Internet Marketing “Guru” arose about 10 years ago and that since then they have been pumping out a massive amount of products, information and training on a weekly basis and making themselves extremely rich by doing so, why is it that just a few months ago two top tier marketers came out publicly to say that only FIVE PERCENT of Internet Marketers were enjoying real success. That is an open admission that most people who are forking out their money to the Gurus (and lesser gurus) and spending vast amounts of their personal time (often to the detriment of their family) have nothing real and tangible to show for it.

This is what I am trying to focus on and shed light on.

But here is another sobering truth delivered by the likes of Brian Tracy and Bob Proctor – No matter what industry or profession you focus on the stats are pretty much the same. The top 10% controls and dominates the pie and the top 1-5% operates at a level that is almost superhuman by comparison to what the majority are achieving.

Why?

Here is the answer that the top 10-% pay attention to and the rest skip over – THEY STUDY AND APPLY THE FUNDAMENTAL RULES AND LAWS OF SUCCESS. The other 90%, for whatever reason, seem to have a blind spot that stops them from gaining this awareness at a very deep level. So they either don’t gain the necessary awareness or, if they do, they only absorb it superficially. Whatever the case, they try to bypass the fundamental building blocks of success and try to go straight for success without paying the price to get there.

This is the key difference between the Strategic Entrepreneur and the Wannabe Entrepreneur who constantly falls victim to the shiny object syndrome – always chasing the latest tactic being flung out by some other person they think can offer them the quick path to success, rather than paying the price required to achieve real and enduring success. The real price is learning, understanding and applying the fundamental laws and rules of success. This requires patience, humility, dedication and persistence. It requires finding the right mentors and coaches who can reveal the right tracks to follow and identify the routes, gimmicks and shiny objects to ignore. It requires setting up blueprint and strategy for achieving the level of success you choose to aim for and then aligning all of your actions to that blueprint.

There is no other way.

There are no short cuts.

Sure, some will be able to do all this and pay the price faster than others. We are not all the same. Our first major task is to understand ourselves – our strengths and weaknesses – so that we can design our blueprint, strategy and actions taking this knowledge into account. Once we fully understand ourselves we are better placed to identify who we need to get on to our Team. Hardly anyone out there who has achieved a high level of success has done it all alone. No, they have all understood that they need to have a Team of the right people, with each team member working in an area that capitalizes on their major skill set and passion.

Regarding MINDSET – keep in mind this famous quote from Albert Einstein “The thinking that got us to where we are is not the thinking that will get us to where we want to be.” Really think about this and absorb its incredible impact. You are NEVER going be able to move yourself to a whole new level of success by continuing to think like you presently do. It is axiomatic that you must change your thinking. So the question you need to be doggedly asking yourself each day is HOW and to look for those who can help you upgrade your thinking to align it with achieving the goals you have set for yourself but which continue to elude you.

Once you embrace this philosophy there is literally no limit to where it might take you. This is the point where some of you will leap ahead of the rest and literally take quantum leaps towards your success. The changes to your life and lifestyle and circumstances will be radical.  At the other side of the spectrum of possibilities some of you will find it very hard to “get it” and continue to plod on as before without seeing much change. Remember the other powerful saying that dovetails with what Einstein said “If you keep on doing what you are currently doing you will continue to get what you are currently getting.”

So the big question to pose for yourself here is TO CHANGE OR NOT TO CHANGE. The choice will always be yours and yours alone. Is what you are currently doing working for you or not? Are the actions you are taking every day accelerating you towards achievement of your goals or not? Or do you feel that you are standing still, just treading water? Think about it. Be honest about it. The worst thing you can do is run away from the truth and pretend that you are something you are not. If you do that you are playing a dangerous game of delusion that will rob you of time, money and opportunity.

There is always much to learn. Top performers are always trying to learn more. They see themselves as being students for life. They would not have it any other way. They know that as soon as they stop learning they have lost the plot and sooner or later they will start sliding backwards. To get to any new destination in life we must be playing in the game of life. To get somewhere in Internet Marketing we must learn to play the Internet Game and stay ahead of the curve.

What about ACTION?

Nothing happens without Action. You can think all you like, and spend all the time you like working on your mind and mindset but until you harness that thinking to taking Action nothing will come of it. But it is not just any Action that counts. It is taking the right actions more times than not. Remember this funny line from Jim Rohn about motivation – If you motivate an idiot all you get is a motivated idiot. Extrapolating from that line – If you are taking lots of action but the wrong action you will not end up with the results you want.

Right Action naturally follows Right Thinking.

So get the thinking sorted out first and then start taking the right actions.

When you find the right mentors to help you start thinking in the right way – as a strategic entrepreneur – you will start acquiring the following talents that will serve you well -

  • Your personal peak performance by knowing who you are and what you are capable of. You will have a whole new level of self-believe that you can leverage every day.
  • You will develop your own inbuilt global positioning system (GPS) that will help you work out more quickly in any situation or circumstance where you are now and what you need to do to get to the location you want to get to by selecting the right strategies, tactics and techniques and combining them in the best way to achieve your desired outcomes in the quickest possible way and with the least amount of effort and obstruction.
  • An exponential mindset that will see you thinking and operating on a whole new level that will keep you in your best flow and resonance for success, wealth and happiness.

Your success will be the product of a number of things working together – your mindset, your philosophy, your knowledge, your inner beliefs and values and your daily actions.

I finish off by again reminding you of WHY those in the top 10% control the pie and those in the other 90% don’t. Those in the top 10% have taken the time to understand and master the success fundamentals that I have briefly discussed here and the rest have not.

There are different levels of awareness that will affect what choices you make each day.

If you don’t know what you don’t know, then you are very limited in the choices open to you to change your thinking and then your actions. But once you know what you did not know before then you are immediately in the driving seat of your life and it is then all about choice and action. This is where people will part company and some will take the route of change and others will choose to stay where they are. It is always up to you.

YOUR PATH TO SUCCESS IS IN YOUR WEALTH PROFILE

There is no one path to success. Bill Gates could never have achieved the level of success he has by trying to pick stocks like Warren Buffet or trade currencies like George Soros or do property deals like Donald Trump. Why? Because they all have very different profiles for creating wealth and each of them has stuck to their wealth profile and not strayed outside it.

The same applies to the top Internet Marketers. They did not all follow the same pathway to success. They each picked the path that best suited their own wealth creator profile. Some are List builders and lead generators. That is what they do best. Some are product creators and made their money by creating great products to use online. But, guess what, they teamed up with others to launch it to the right market using the right strategies. Why? Because their natural talent was not in the marketing side of things, it was in product creation. Do you follow my drift? I hope so, because the key point here is that a high level of success in Internet Marketing, as anywhere else, is NEVER just about the individual, it is about THE TEAM that the individual puts together around some great idea, great product, great system that he/she knows (from doing sufficient market research) is in high demand in a sufficiently deep niche to make it a commercial success.

Why does it all hang on the people in THE TEAM to make it a huge success?

Because each member of the Team is selected according to his or her profile to DO THE TYPE OF WORK that he or she is best suited to, loves to do and has a high aptitude for. Make sense?

The Lone Ranger model (trying to do it all on your own) is a recipe for failure. Ask any highly successful person. The correct sequence to become highly successful is -

1. Pick a crystal clear destination/outcome that you intend to go for in a viable market niche;

2. Choose the right people to be in your Team;

3. Allocate the right people to the right tasks according to their profiles;

4. Develop the Business Plan covering all the essential tasks to get you from A to Z, Z being your identified outcome;

5. Create respect, trust and excitement in the Team.

6. Effectively manage the Team through the ups and downs to the eventual success.

ARE YOU AN UPSTREAM OR DOWNSTREAM PERSON?

A key theme on my GBRO website is that you will never make it into the top 10% let alone the top 5% or top1% if you don’t make it your mission to become a strategic entrepreneur. This is the first key step.

Make money along the way, of course, but don’t become a victim of the shiny object syndrome as so many do. You become a potential victim of that syndrome when you are constantly chasing opportunities before you even have a business foundation in place that will guide your selection and choice of opportunities to grow and benefit your business.

What is a Strategic Entrepreneur?

The Strategic Entrepreneur is the person who always moves UPSTREAM from were the masses are focused to look for the NEXT BEST THING that will find favour with his or her target market.

The Strategic Entrepreneur is always working outside the box that seems to confine those who are always operating DOWNSTREAM waiting for the next best thing to arrive.

Remember that saying –“When it comes to the future, there are 3 kinds of people-

  • Those who let it happen (i.e. the people waiting downstream for things to come along)
  • Those who make it happen (the strategic entrepreneur makes his or her own luck and circumstances by working upstream from the crowd)
  • Those who wonder what happened after it has already happened.

A mentor of mine said the other day “The Future is not where you think it is.”  Think about that. The masses are constantly heading in the wrong direction whilst those in the top 1% and 5% are creating the future that they intend to command and live in. They are designing life on their terms.

When you see life in these terms (as Strategic Entrepreneurs do) then you realise that every day is a chance for you to be creating your own masterpiece that will make the future the way you vision it to be. For example think Steve Jobs (Apple) and Richard Branson (Virgin Group).

To stay ahead of the curve, in any industry, including Internet Marketing, you must be constantly looking into the future 10-20 years ahead and moving yourself in to the “upstream” mental space so that you can be creating and delivering the “next best thing” in some area that will capture the imagination and desire of your target market.

If you cannot be this type of strategic entrepreneur you can be the second type – the strategic entrepreneur that SEES what is coming (created by others) and PREPARES in advance to LEVERAGE this BEFORE IT MOVES TOO FAR DOWNSTREAM where it is has already become mainstream with the novelty shine already dimmed or worn out.

As always, it is about positioning yourself to CATCH THE WAVE at the right time for each “next best thing” so that you can then apply the wealth creation formula of VALUE + LEVERAGE = Wealth.

Whether you are the Creator of the Next Best Thing or you are an Entrepreneur on the look out for the next best thing so that you can harness its power and potential before the masses are all scrambling on to the same bandwagon you must first get the necessary attention and trust from your target market by clearly and unambiguously demonstrating its VALUE and differentiating it from anything else out there (the distinctions) and then LEVERAGING that value to ramp up the volume of sales in all ways possible using effective marketing strategies.

You focus on VISION and QUALITY first and then on LEVERAGE and QUANTITY.

Once you learn to become a strategic entrepreneur all else becomes possible up to the very highest levels.

Once you become a strategic entrepreneur you will know precisely what shiny objects you are looking for and how to assess their real value to your business.

ETHICS IN INTERNET MARKETING. DOES THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS?

Not too long ago an Internet Marketer friend of mine (I will not name him) told me that he had been convinced by his Mentor (a very successful Internet Marketer now based in Thailand) who I shall also not name, that to make a great income in Internet Marketing you had to inflate your promise of what your product could do and inflate the prospects expectation of how much money he or she could make in the short term if they purchased the product.

The products I am talking about here are software products.

These software products are the best example of the “shiny objects” that top marketers like Rich Schefren have been telling people about when he warns them of not falling prey to the “shiny object syndrome” as so many do. These shiny software products that will take you to a 6 figure income and beyond in record time are being regularly flung out by certain so called “Gurus” in a manner that might be called unethical.

My friend who I mentioned above met his mentor to be at a seminar. My friend has to technical ability to write software. They got talking and the Mentor invited my friend to come over to Thailand for a couple of months to create some new software aimed at increasing traffic to websites using video marketing. My friend spent his first month there working day and night to create the product. Then, his Mentor, started to promote a series of webinars to his List (a large one) where he had my friend talk about the product and its benefits. The Mentor let my friend do most of the talking but would intervene from time to time when he thought it was necessary in order to clarify a point.

I listened to one of the webinars and the product sounded fantastic. So I emailed my friend and asked how I could buy it. His email reply stunned me. He confided to me that a lot of the claims were exaggerations and that whilst the product could be helpful there was no way it would produce the results he was claiming it could.

When he returned home from his 6 week sojourn in Thailand he was about $80,000 richer. They had run a whole host of webinars and made a lot of sales. His commission was 40% of gross. He was over the moon and all fired up. He had never made that sort of money before and in just 6 weeks! His whole life was changed. He was now going to make Thailand his base and he was going to set up his own company in Hong Kong where he would pay no tax on his earnings. He was doing it this way because then he would be beyond the reach of the law if anyone wanted to sue him for misrepresentation of misleading or deceptive conduct.

He told me, point blank – “This is the only way you will ever make a lot of money in this business.”

I wished him the best but told him that I did not intend to go down that path. It might bring him quick riches, but to me it was the proverbial slippery slope that sooner or later would undo him.

He laughed at me when I confirmed my commitment to certain key principles such as -

  • You must treat your List of Subscribers with respect and integrity
  • You must give generously before you start to receive abundantly
  • The value you give must be real value
  • You have to earn your subscribers trust and build a long term mutually rewarding relationship.

We agreed to stay friends but part company on our core philosophy and principles.

He has just recently purchased a house in San Diego, where a lot of the top marketers hang out, but has no intention of becoming a US citizen as he does not want his business to be subject to US laws.

Bottom line – he has aligned himself 100% with the “shiny object” Internet marketers who are out to profit from deception. It is this deception is catching the eye of the lawmakers and regulators and causing them to tighten up the laws that govern online marketing. The more they try to deceive the public the more governments will try to regulate and control the environment.

My friend, as part of his defence, told me that his Mentor told him that all the top Marketers are engaging in the shiny object deception in one way or another – because they know that this is what will continue to bring in the avalanche of money they are making each year.

BUILDING AN AWESOME INTERNET BUSINESS

I recently picked up these gems of wisdom from a leading Business Entrepreneur – Siimon Reynolds -

HOW TO BUILD A MILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS

  1. Need to be growing at minimum of 10-15% per year
  2. Need to study to lessons of the great – so need to study what they do
  3. Need to learn short term strategies to increase sales

WHY BUSINESSES FAIL

  • In the wrong business
  • No inherent advantage
  • Need to select a biz that has some special adv and distinction from other businesses
  • Pick a business that has a real established need for what it has to offer
  • Avoid a slow and declining industry  (e.g. DVD shops)
  • Avoid a business with too many competitors
  • Need to find an angle and a niche (e.g. all black clothes for women)
  • Don’t be a generalist – be a specialist with an angle – and build a loyal audience
  • Pick a biz that fits my style and that I have a real interest in
  • Don’t go against my natural character. Try to find something that fits well with who you are and gains your passion and interest.

BEST TYPE OF BUSINESS

  • Talent based – not good model if it relies too much on a certain person or persons staying with the biz
  • Better to choose a SYSTEMS BASED business

HOW TO INCREASE SALES

  • Allocate a lot of time to this
  • Most fail to allocate enough time to it
  • Need to schedule it every day
  • Do it first thing in the morning – first 1-2 hours – BUILDING THE BUSINESS before you get tied up in all the other stuff
  • This is the most important time of the day – every day
  • Do not neglect it
  • It is all about face to face appointments
  • How long are you spending each day on generating new business?
  • This is the real determinant of biz success
  • Need to work on the best script for all my points of contact with prospects
  • Know my metrics then refine, refine, refine.

I hope these key points will help you in successfully building your own business. They apply with equal force to both off line and on line businesses.

INTERNET TRAFFIC VERSUS INTERNET MARKETING

Sorry, I have been out of action for a while. It is good to be back in the saddle and blogging again.

As always, I am totally open about why I am blogging here. There is nothing hidden. I want to be an open and transparent as I can. I am very fortunate to have had some great Mentors and Coaches over the last year spanning Business Mastery, Internet Marketing, Personal Growth and Wealth Creation.

I blog on this site first and foremost to share what I have learned. The real value of knowledge is its potential to be put to good use. To be put into productive action and to improve the results you are presently getting.
